How does the new PowR Oven™ work?

The new PowR Oven™ features a power burner that is located inside the back of the oven cavity. This burner technology, which is widely used in commercial ovens, provides heat directly to the cooking chamber, enabling faster preheating and overall enhanced efficiency. When the power burner is running the convection fan cycles on a low speed to promote even heat distribution throughout the oven cavity.

Is there also a heating element on the bottom of the oven?

No, there is no additional heating element in the bottom of the oven. The power burner, located at the back of the oven cavity, provides a more efficient heat source.

Is convection available?

All units come standard with a convection fan. It is controlled by a switch located on the front control panel. For more efficient and even baking and roasting, use your PowR Oven™ with the convection fan turned on. If you choose to use the convection fan, standard adjustments in temperature are recommended. The convection fan will always run at a low speed when the power burner is on. The fan will run at a high speed when the burner is not lit and if the convection switch on the front control panel is on.

Why does the flame on the power burner turn on and off?

The power burner cycles to maintain the desired air temperature for a constant and even heat. The power burner flame will automatically ignite and extinguish during this process. The blue indicator light, located on the front control panel, will turn on every time the power burner is on as the oven cycles to maintain the set temperature.

Because of the location of the power burner, is the back of the oven hotter than the front?

No, the cavity design, which features coved corners, and the automatic cycling of the convection fan while the power burner is running promotes consistent heat distribution for even roasting and baking.

Can the recommended temperatures in my recipe be used with this oven?

Recommended temperatures are a great starting point. With the power burner you may need to adjust your temperatures slightly to get your desired results. In general lighter, smaller recipes such as cookies, muffins, and thin layer cakes, will cook in roughly the same amount of time as your recipe. The denser the recipe (e.g. cheesecakes, pound cakes, large meats) the faster the cook time will be verses your recipe. Consult your user manual for additional guidance.

Can you use the oven without the power burner running?

No, the power burner located on the back wall of the cavity is the heating element for the oven.

How long does it take the power burner in the PowR Oven™ to ignite?

Although the indicator light is on, it may take up to one minute for the power burner to ignite, this is normal.

How long is the power cord?

The power cord is 5ft long.

Are casters available instead of legs?

Yes, both casters and legs are available. Each range comes standard with legs. Casters must be requested at the time of order.

What is the standard burner configuration?

All Platinum™ Series ranges come standard with all burners.

Range Installation

Do I need to have my range professionally installed?

Yes, it is highly recommended that a qualified technician install your BlueStar product AND complete the Manufacturer’s Performance Checklist included in the manual. For a list of qualified technicians in your area, please contact your BlueStar dealer.

At what height does my range need to be installed?

The top of a BlueStar range should be 11/16 above the counter – the standard counter is 36” high, so the range should be installed at 36-11/16″. The casters can be adjusted up to ½ inches. The legs can be adjusted up to 1 inch.

Do I really need to have a dedicated outlet?

Yes.

Do I need to move my gas connection if it is not on the floor?

It is recommended that the gas connection is moved to the floor. However, if it cannot be moved, the gas line must be recessed to attain zero clearance.

Do you recommend a specific hood or hood size?

We recommend seeking the advice of your BlueStar dealer or an expert ventilation professional.

Do BlueStar ranges lose BTUs when using LP gas?

No, whether configured for natural or LP gas, BlueStar ranges are designed to deliver the same level of BTUs.

Ventilation

Agency: What agency approval do BlueStar vent hoods have?
Blowers: What are the differences between in-hood, in-line & remote blowers?

The difference is the location.  An in-hood blower is located directly inside the hood, in-line is located within the duct run typically in the attic and remote is located on the roof or exterior wall.

Blower: Can a non-BlueStar blower be used with a BlueStar hood?

Alternate models, manufacturers or styles of blowers are not recommended and it would void your warranty.

Blower: What are the performance differences between the three types of blowers?

Air movement ratings on them may vary but based on models with comparable air flow ratings they will perform similarly.  In other words, a hood with a 1,200 CFM in-hood blower will perform the same as a 1,200 CFM remote or in-line blower.  There may be some slight differences based on duct design (length, diameter, number of elbows, etc.) but they will not usually be noticeable.

Blower: Blower ratings

The blower CFM’s are based on the volumetric airflow ratings from the supplier, operating at maximum RPM with no static pressure and no restrictions on the inlet or outlet.  These ratings should be used as a point of reference only.  While proper removal of smoke, heat and grease may be achieved, the actual air flow will likely be less than the CFM rating.  It will be affected by the design of the duct run, size of the room being ventilation and availability of make-up air to the space.

Blower: The blower does not perform as expected.

Blower performance can be affected by many factors depending on the installation.  Performance may be affected by the duct run (length, diameter, number of elbows, etc.), type of exterior exhaust, size of the room and availability of make-up air to the space.

Blower: Does the flap on the HYEX remote blower housing cause poor air flow performance?

No.  The spring loaded flap on the HYEX remote blower is designed to keep the weather out when the blower is not operating.  The position will vary based on the speed selected as well as other factors, which can contribute to the overall air flow in the exhaust system.  This includes the duct run (length, diameter, number of elbows, etc.), size of the room and availability of make-up air to the space.

Blower: Are your 1,400 CFM HYEX remote blowers suitable for concentrated salt air applications?

The HYEX blower housings are made of a galvanized steel which provides corrosion protection in most environments.  If exterior rust is noticed on the outside of the housing or lid, an exterior grade of a clear protective coating or paint may be applied.

Blower: What is the amperage of in-hood blowers?

3.75 amps

Cleaning: How do I clean my vent hood?
Baffle filters are dishwasher safe or can be cleaned in a sink with warm, soapy water. Do not disassemble the baffle filter as it will void the warranty.
Cleaning: How frequently should I clean my hood?
Cleaning: What do I use to clean the stainless steel parts?
Cleaning: What do I use to clean the painted parts and trim?
Control: What does the timer button do?
The button is backlit and will be constantly lit when the filters need to be cleaned. Once parts are cleaned and reinstalled, press and hold the button for three seconds to reset the timer and turn off the indicator light. Depending on the type of cooking, the filters may need to be cleaned more frequently.
The button also acts as a delay-off feature that is useful to run once the cooking has been completed. This can help clear any residual smoke, odors or heat from the kitchen and clear the ductwork of any condensation that may have occurred during cooking. With the blower running on a desired speed, press and release the timer button. The blower will continue to operate at the given speed for 15 minutes and then will automatically turn off. The control is set to activate every 14 hours of blower on-time from timer reset.
General: Are hoods suitable above a deep fryer?

No.

General: Are hoods suitable above a wood fired grill or oven?

No.

Installation: Can the hood be unified with a hood next to it and/or can it share a duct run with another hood?

No. The hood requires its own blower system and duct run that is vented to the outside of the building. They are not to be connected to a common exhaust trunk with any other ventilating device.

Installation: What is the maximum recommended duct length?

We recommend that you consult with a local HVAC professional to ensure you are following all local building codes.  As a general rule we recommend the duct run be kept under 30 feet for a straight run and for every 90 degree turn in the duct run, subtract 5 feet from the total.  For example, 25 feet for a duct run with 1 elbow, 20 feet for a duct run with 2 elbows, etc.  This recommendation is regardless of the type of blower and duct diameter.

Installation: What duct material should I use?

Duct needs to be made of rigid metal ductwork.  Do not use plastic, flexible or corrugated ductwork.

Installation: What duct sizing should I use?
Installation: What duct sizing should I use?
Make-up Air: What is make-up air?

Some homes may require make-up air to counteract exterior ventilating appliances (e.g. bath fans, furnaces, water heaters, etc.). Bluestar does not offer any make-up air accessories and Bluestar hoods do not currently provide control connections for electrically switched remote makeup air systems. If an active make-up air system is desired for improved blower performance or necessary for local building ordinances, a separate pressure sensing switch may be added to the duct work directly above the hood to control the make-up air damper and/or fan. Customer should consult their local HVAC contractor for a stand-alone make-up air system that could be controlled with a pressure sensing switch in the duct run.

Ratings: Are hoods Class (or Type) 1 or 2?

All Bluestar hoods are intended for residential use only and do not fall under the commercial classification that identifies the type of hood as Class (or Type) 1 or 2.

Ratings: Are hoods ANSUL rated to meet fire code for an appliance with grease?

They are not equipped with any sort of fire suppression system, nor are they capable of being equipped with any kind of fire suppression equipment.

What is included in the Interchangeable Griddle and Charbroiler System?

The Interchangeable Griddle and Charbroiler System comes with 6 pieces.

(1) Cast iron frame (skirt) that holds the griddle or charbroiler in place

(2) Cast iron, two-sided griddle (flat top that features a smooth and ribbed surface)

(3) & (4) Pair of cast iron, two-sided charbroiler grates that are placed side-by-side

(5) Stainless steel diffuser, to protect the burners when using the charbroiler

(6) Stainless steel cover, if the system is kept permanently on the range

Are the cast iron Interchangeable Griddle and Charbroiler pieces non-stick?

No, the cast iron pieces are not non-stick, but they are porcelain coated.

Is the griddle or charbroiler interchangeable on any of the burners?

It can be placed on any two burners from front-to-back on the range.

How do you protect the burners when using the charbroiler?

There is a stainless steel diffuser that fits into two grooves within the frame (skirt). It is placed underneath the cast iron charbroiler grate pieces. It works to deflect any potential drippings from hitting the burners and directs them to the grease trays.

Does the heat vary with the interchangeable griddle and charbroiler?

Yes, there are 2 cooking zones with the griddle and charbroiler, a front and a rear. The front and rear are controlled by using the knobs on the control panel to adjust the flame of the front and rear burners. You can adjust each zone by moving the knobs to your desired heat.

Does the range come with two frames so you can have both the griddle and charbroiler next to each other at the same time?

Only 1 frame (skirt) comes standard with each range.

How do you clean the interchangeable griddle and charbroiler?

Allow all parts to come to room temperature. For the cast iron frame, griddle, and charbroiler grates, wash with warm water and a non-metallic grill brush. Rinse well and dry thoroughly. Do not submerge grates in water for extended periods as this may cause rusting. For the stainless steel diffuser, wash with hot, soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

TIP: For easier clean-up of drip pan, add some water to the drip pan underneath the charbroiler before using.
