2018 Kitchen Design Contest Winners

Posted: April 9, 2018

BlueStar® is thrilled to announce IDF Studio in San Francisco as the grand prize winner in its third annual Kitchen Design Competition. The winning design shows how color, customization and performance come together in a full BlueStar® kitchen suite, including range, ventilation hood and premium refrigeration, to create a highly detailed, bespoke space. Located in San Francisco’s Cow Hollow neighborhood, the kitchen reflects the homeowner’s fun, youthful personality. IDF Studio’s Design Director Jaclyn Christensen took on the challenge: how to include the animal theme and color pink throughout the home while designing a refined, sophisticated space.

The kitchen design channels the client’s playfulness. “I used my love of bold colors and patterns to create a palate that would not only suit her immediate needs, but also be classic enough to last through the years, ” said Christensen. The creamy white BlueStar® built-in refrigerator and 36-inch gas range with white knobs both feature nickel accents and are showstoppers. “We loved BlueStar’s commercial kitchen suite offering; not only for the freedom to customize any color to mesh with our unique design palette, but also for the rugged industrial style and top-notch performance. The client loves to cook at home and entertain, and these appliances hit every button in terms of looks and performance.”

Internationally acclaimed designer Eric Cohler led the judging panel. Cohler admires the winning design for its outstanding use of materials to create a warm and inviting space. “The clean lines of the all-white BlueStar® appliances are offset perfectly by a geometric ceramic floor and antique wood island. Another special touch is the marble subway tile extending to the ceiling accentuating height. This is further reinforced by the extruded chimney and hood,” said Cohler. “I applaud the designer and homeowner’s bravado in expressing a unique point of view in what could have become a tight and uninspired space.”

Cindy Rinfret, Rinfret, Ltd, Greenwich, CT – Pool House Makeover

Regional Winning Design in the 2018 BlueStar Kitchen Design Contest

Rinfret Ltd. designed this beautiful pool house kitchen. My inspiration is always updated classic with a twist. It features a custom colored blue/gray range and hood from BlueStar as “the jewelry” of the pool house kitchen. This range is the focal point and was mixed with cerused wood cabinets, white iceberg quartzite countertops and a fabulous playful glass backsplash.

Debbie Gottlieb, Finelines Interiors, Westchester, NY – Modern Rustic Farmhouse

Regional Winning Design in the 2018 BlueStar Kitchen Design Contest

My inspiration for this Kitchen was a modern barn. I wanted the cabinetry to be worn in and rustic hence the wire brushed technique with Cerused Oak with a splash of the stove color in a deep plum color. The theme Modern, Rustic, Organic reflects the home’s awe-inspiring Berkshire Mountains setting.

Wendy Berry, W. Design, Chagrin Falls, OH – Turn of the Century Home

Regional Winning Design in the 2018 BlueStar Kitchen Design Contest

We wanted to make a statement in this kitchen renovation and knew that the 60” RNB Series Range with 12” Griddle in Jet Black would be a total showstopper. The challenge in this project was merging the husband’s traditional style with the wife’s modern taste. The transitional shaker style white cabinetry on the perimeter and white pearl quartzite slab nods towards the classic feel. Juxtaposed with the modern influences of the black iron accents and polished brass hardware, the kitchen is the perfect marriage of opposing styles. The subtle gray glass herringbone backsplash makes for an understated backdrop that allows the BlueStar® Range to really shine. The custom black hood with brass perimeter detailing brings out the brass knobs in the BlueStar® range for some added drama.

Pamela Polvere, Pamela Polvere Designs, Elmwood Park, IL – Greifenstein Kitchen/Breakfast Room

Regional Winning Design in the 2018 BlueStar Kitchen Design Contest

This kitchen and breakfast room remodeling project was done for a family with 5 daughters and 3 dogs. This victorian farmhouse was built in the early 1900’s. The homeowners described their new space as wanting an “open, airy, brighter and lighter” look and feel. They had just remodeled their front porch and purchased a new Pella front door. The color is ‘Sparkling Teal’ and it matched perfectly the BlueStar color “RAL 6027 Light Green”.

Suzanne & Garry Shumaker, Shumaker Design & Build Associates, Evanston, IL – Elm

Regional Winning Design in the 2018 BlueStar Kitchen Design Contest

This Mid-century home on Chicago’s North Shore was re-imagined with Mid-century modern sensibilities. The kitchen was expanded to take advantage of clear views through the sunroom, now dining room, celebrating garden views and connecting the family living spaces to the new and now light filled kitchen. The uncluttered work spaces of the kitchen were crafted to provide continuous traffic flow and access for a family that cooks together. The result is a space that is warm, open and inviting, while holding the clean Mid-century modern lines re-introduced to this house throughout the first floor living room, dining room and foyer spaces.
