Vintage Revival

Erin Salimena of Gusto Design Studio brought modern flair to this 1908 Portland, OR home with this kitchen featuring thoughtful, contemporary upgrades while preserving the home’s historic character and Vernacular Victorian aesthetic.

The kitchen was an addition, and only a small portion of the home was remodeled alongside it, so the designer paired original trim details and proportions with new custom cabinetry and a walk-in pantry to create a bright, yet timeless aesthetic that truly feels like a natural extension of the home.

An added central island provides space for dining and gathering, while direct access to the patio creates a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living. With the home’s original porch, entry, stairs, living room, and dining room still intact, the kitchen strikes a perfect, careful balance between honoring the home’s heritage and the contemporary functionality needed for daily family living.
