Celebrating 138 Years of Handcrafting Quality Cooking Equipment

Posted: July 2, 2018

BlueStar® has a long 138 year history of handcrafting products out of our Pennsylvania factory.  Since 1880, and especially today we continue to be focused on the highest quality and performance for all home cooks, built by skilled American workers.

In 1880, Prizer-Painter Stove Works, Inc. maker of BlueStar, began manufacturing a full line of residential and commercial coal ranges, hot water heaters, furnaces, and heating stoves at the company’s factory in Reading, Pennsylvania. The handcrafted products were sold under many of the popular brands of the day, and many of those original models are still in service across America.

Prizer continued to manufacture quality cooking ranges under the Prizer label, as well as for other high-end brands, and took a major step forward with the introduction of its advanced two-coat/one-fire enameling system.

In 2002, Prizer introduced handcrafted, restaurant-quality ranges for the residential market under the BlueStar brand name. Constructed of the highest-quality commercial grade stainless steel, and with specialized technologies such as the Ultra-Nova® 22,000 BTU power burner and the 130°F gentle simmer burner, BlueStar delivered true restaurant performance to the home chef.

In 2006, BlueStar expanded its product line to include rangetops, cooktops, wall ovens and premium ventilation.  In addition to new products, BlueStar announced the availability of customizing its products in a choice of 190 RAL colors plus the option to create a custom color.

In 2014, BlueStar® two new products hit the market.  First was the Platinum Series gas range line – complete with BlueStar’s highest 25,000 BTU burners for the ultimate in high-heat gas cooking.  The Platinum Series line also comes with its signature interchangeable griddle charbroiler system for endless cooking flexibility. Second, was BlueStar’s first step into the electric cooking marketing, with our innovative Electric Wall Oven which features a built-in artisan baking stone with precise temperature control for perfect pizzas and breads.
